IDC: the global enterprise WLAN market increased slightly in the first quarter of 2017

according to the IDC global WLAN quarterly tracking report, in the first quarter of 2017, the overall consumer and enterprise wireless local area network (WLAN) market decreased by 0.8% year-on-year to $2.15 billion, of which the enterprise market increased by 4.4% year-on-year to $1.24 billion. Compared with the significant growth rate of 8.6% in the first quarter of 2016, the growth rate of enterprise WLAN in the first quarter of 2017 was smaller. However, network upgrading, digital transformation projects and the gradual maturity of wave 2 802.11ac are all positive indicators of strong growth in 2017

802.11ac now accounts for 70.9% of independent access point shipments and 84.7% of independent access point revenue, respectively. This is mainly due to the gradual elimination of 802.11n, which is expected to be completely eliminated by the end of 2018

at the same time, the market revenue of consumer WLAN decreased by 7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2017 to $913million. In this quarter, the shipment and revenue share of 802.11ac standard in the consumer market were 28.6% and 58.2% respectively. 802.11ac remained a bright spot in the consumer WLAN market in the first quarter of 2017, with revenue and shipments increasing by 17.6% and 48.5% year-on-year, respectively

nolan Greene, senior research analyst of IDC Network infrastructure, said: the soft start in 2017 means that there is uncertainty in the future of the enterprise WLAN market. Although digital transformation projects and planning upgrades will continue in the second half of 2017, economic concerns and geopolitical risks in some segments will hinder growth in 2017

from a regional perspective, the highest growth rate of the corporate WLAN market in the first quarter of 2017 came from Latin America, with a year-on-year increase of 28.4%, while in 2016, there were three quarters of decline in the region. The most eye-catching one was Mexico, with a year-on-year increase of 115.9%. Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) grew and solidified rapidly, with an increase of 18.6% year-on-year for individuals from simple product demanders to producers and demanders in the quarter. Among them, Russia, which resumed growth (a year-on-year increase of 49.1%), was the main factor in the growth of central and Eastern Europe, and Hungary also increased by 48.4%. The Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) region had an eye-catching performance in the first quarter of 2017, with a year-on-year increase of 16.2%. Most countries achieved growth in the quarter, especially Indonesia and Hong Kong, with year-on-year growth rates of 31.1% and 28.7% respectively. Japan increased for the third consecutive quarter, with an increase of 11.1%, continuing to reverse the downward trend in many quarters from 2014 to 2016

Western Europe and Middle East Africa (MEA) grew moderately in the quarter, with year-on-year growth of 2.5% and 2.2% respectively. In Western Europe, many countries have outstanding performance, among which Finland (a year-on-year increase of 23.6%) led, but the UK's year-on-year decline of 15.3% offset part of the overall growth. In the MEA region, the situation varies from country to country, with Egypt increasing by 30.3% year-on-year and Qatar declining by 29.9%. North America fell 2.8% year-on-year in the quarter

the digital transformation of emerging markets is imperative, which has driven the growth rate of major regions. Said Petr jirovsky, research manager of IDC global network tracking report. In 2017, as economic changes and the global political landscape pose some risks to the volatility of the IT market, we will see growth changes in different regions

major updates of enterprise WLAN manufacturers:

Cisco's global enterprise WLAN revenue in the first quarter of 2017 increased by 0.2% year-on-year, with a global market share of 43.4%, lower than 43.6% in the fourth quarter of 2016 and 45.2% in the first quarter of 2016. IDC believes that the Meraki cloud management WLAN product portfolio is still the main growth driver of Cisco, offsetting the decline of Cisco in the traditional controller based WLAN product portfolio
